Help for Spam & Virus Build It (SVBI)
Tips on Using Your SBI Web Based Email Access
SBI offers web based email software, plus something called SVBI - Spam and Virus Build It. Find tips and tutorials on using the SBI web based email access here.
Like most web hosts, SBI offers email that you can access either with a web login or by setting it up to work with Gmail or some other POP3 email software. Personally, I find the SBI interface to be extremely clunky and not user-friendly at all, but you might feel differently.
The good news is, they make it quite easy to set it up with Google Apps, so if you already like GMail, then that's a solution you'll probably embrace.
Regardless of your preferences, I've set up some easy tutorials to get you started in whatever direction makes sense for you at this point in time.
Why You Need Email for Your Website
You might be wondering why a separate email account is even necessary when you start a new website. Can't you just use the same email you've been using for your personal web correspondence all along?
The answer to that question is yes, of course you can. But I don't recommend it... and here's why:
- Separate accounts help with organization. Especially as your email volume increases as your website matures, it's going to be helpful to keep your correspondence separate. That way you won't miss anything. Sure, you can use folders/filters to do something similar, but separate accounts is really smarter.
- Looks more professional. The main reason why it makes sense to have a separate email address for your website is that it lends professionalism and credibility to your site, particularly if you plan to sell services or products in the future. It also make it look like you plan to be around for a while.
There really are no good reasons not to set up email for your new website!
Luckily, when you own an SBI website, SBI makes it easy for you to get started immediately with their web based email software. They even send you a detailed email instructional entitled, "Site Build It! MAIL". Do you have it?
